Types of Therapy:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy is an evidence-based treatment that focuses on exploring relationships among a person’s thoughts, feelings and behaviors. The core principles of CBT are identifying negative or false beliefs and testing or restructuring them. Additionally, CBT addresses unhealthy patterns of thoughts and how they may cause emotional dysregulation and self-destructive behaviors and beliefs.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy is an evidence-based treatment approach that is based on CBT, however, it addresses validation and acceptance of uncomfortable thoughts, feelings and behaviors. DBT is shown to be helpful in reducing suicidal behavior, non-suicidal self-injury, psychiatric hospitalizations, substance use, impulsivity, and emotional dysregulation.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Motivational Interviewing is an evidence-based method that works on facilitating and engaging intrinsic motivation within the client in order to change behavior. MI is a goal-oriented, client-centered counseling style used to elicit behavior change by helping clients to explore and resolve ambivalence.
